At Oswego Creative we have developed a strong relationship with organized labor and specifically the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers). For over 15 years we have supported the IBEW's efforts to better communicate their mission and message.
Most recently, we were at the IBEW Membership Development Conference in Las Vegas to promote a pair of organizing videos that we developed in conjunction with IBEW Local 76 in Tacoma, WA. Rather than depending on word of mouth and print handouts, these organizing videos are providing the IBEW with an innovative new way to promote their organizing efforts.
When people think of organizing, they mostly think about organizing non-union electricians to increase membership. In addition to producing a video to do this, we have also developed a video targeting non-union contractors to help the IBEW organize more work. These two videos help the IBEW organizing from the bottom up as well as from the top down.
With the current state of the economy and especially the construction sector, we understand that marketing dollars are tight. But unlike the common misconception that in a tight economy one cuts back on marketing, we know that for the IBEW to reach their organizing goals they can't stop marketing - they just need to market smarter. We hope that these videos will help them do just that. Each organizing video has a consistent story but each are customized to feature local union leaders, contractors and workers. This approach provides the IBEW with a cost-effective solution since each video doesn't need to start from scratch. Regardless if someone in Tacoma or Tuscaloosa is using these videos, they provide a consistent general message but feature individuals from that specific community.
With every client, we are striving to deliver executions that will help them achieve their communication goals. We feel that with these videos, the IBEW has a powerful tool at their disposal to positively promote their organizing message. So far the feedback has been extremely positive. When these videos were previewed to the general assembly at the conference they received a rousing round of applause. We couldn’t have been happier or more proud after that reaction to this project.
